INTERVIEW: Minna Parikka, creative Finnish

Minna Parikka Finnish pampers is the creator of much of the blogosphere, it is distinguished by very feminine creations, original, romantic and often inspired by vintage. Minna has understood very early that she could make a career through his creations, just 19, she went to study shoe design in England and was consecrated by the profession in 2002 with the award of young designer of the glove year. She then returned to Finland to start his own eponymous label. For beautiful comfortable shoes, is the designer to follow ...

How it all began for you?
I dreamed to become a creator of shoes since my teens. My sister had written an article on the designer Andrea Pfister. And suddenly everything was lit when I realized that dream was a shoe business.

What do you remember most about your degree in creation of shoes?
The most important thing I learned is how a shoe is designed and manufactured. It is vital to understand completely the aspect 'portable' a boot in parallel with its aesthetics.

Are you a fashion icon?
Anna Piaggi. I want to be like her in 30 years!

If you were not a designer, what would you do?
I would explore the wilderness. Reporting by David Attenborough are my favorites.

What do you do when you have free time?
Like small explorations. I'm doing the bike in summer and winter I travel. I was in New Zealand there is no time for a road trip solo, I'm paragliding, I swam with dolphins and whitewater rafting ...

How would you describe the Finnish?
At its best, the Finnish woman can be sarcastic, strong and sincere.

Can you tell us what are your three favorite stores in Helsinki?
course my own boutique concept store multi-label O My My and Helsinki 10.

What are your Plans for the fashion week in March?
As each year, we participate in the parade at the Premiere Classe accessories Tuilerie. For us, it's a great parade as it brings together a good show for designers to the press and international buyers.

How can you describe your current collection?
The collection is like a huge bouquet of flowers tied firmly with a rope 'bondage' and a huge knot on top.

If you could do a collaboration with another designer, who would it be?
I'd love to work with many different artists and designers. I have to do a collaborative project that brings together artists, designers and craftsmen to Helsinki, capital of design in 2012.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Having my own label for 5 1 / 2 years. The best thing is to have created my own world, to work and to live and that people like this I do. We distribute our products in a dozen countries and the business is growing while many brands are in difficulties. In addition, celebrities are supporting us, such as Beth Ditto's band Gossip, Paloma Faith and I created the double platinum award for Lady Gaga.

What are your plans?
This week, I created many masks, shoes and hats by cutting my shoes and screwing them together. I love this project to turn my shoes into something completely different to see and wear.

Thanks Minna!
